Solar water heating

Solar thermal hot water

Solar thermal collectors use the sun's heat to warm your hot water, reducing how much gas, oil or electricity you use to heat it.

How solar thermal works

Collectors on your roof absorb heat from the sun and transfer it to your hot water cylinder. Your boiler or immersion heater tops up the temperature when needed. In summer, solar thermal can provide most of a household's hot water.

What we do

  • Survey and system design
  • Flat-plate and evacuated-tube collectors
  • Compatible cylinder and controls
  • Servicing, repairs and system checks

Solar thermal or solar PV?

Solar thermal heats water; solar PV generates electricity. Which suits you depends on your hot water use, your heating system and your roof space. We install both, so we'll give you an honest recommendation rather than pushing one option.

Common questions

Will I need a new hot water cylinder?

Usually you need a cylinder with a dedicated solar coil. If yours doesn't have one, we'll include a suitable cylinder in your quote.

Does solar thermal work in winter?

It still contributes on bright winter days, but output is much lower, so your boiler or immersion heater does more of the work in winter.

Can you service an existing system?

Yes. We check pressure, fluid, pumps and controls, and repair faults on existing solar thermal systems.
